The rollout of Norwegian Cruise Line's much-awaited Prima class of ships continues in 2023 with the arrival of Norwegian Viva — the second vessel in the series after the recently unveiled Norwegian Prima. In just a few years, that'll give the line a bigger capacity than such well-known luxury cruise operators as Seabourn and the soon-to-relaunch Crystal Cruises. To that end, Resilient Lady will have no buffets, no dress codes and no big Broadway-style theater shows. For entertainment, expect interactive dance parties, DJ sets and "microplays," plus late-night games of dodgeball. Additionally, it's just the first of at least four sister vessels that MSC Cruises plans to unveil over the next few years, including one destined for deployment in Florida.
How Many New Ships Debuted in 2023?
Get to know the best cruise ships in a variety of categories, based on member review ratings for cruises taken in the last year. The Edge-class ships consume 20 percent less fuel when compared to the line’s previous generation of vessels. Like most new ships, Celebrity Ascent will also be able to reduce emissions in port by connecting to shore power, when available. Currently, 85 percent of the line’s waste is “recycled, repurposed, or sent to a waste-to-energy facility,” according to Celebrity’s sustainability statement. Albatros Expeditions will expand its fleet with Ocean Albatros — sister ship to Ocean Victory and another of SunStone Ships’ signature X-Bow-equipped expedition ships — in May 2023.
MSC Cruises Unveils Summer 2025 Sailings from U.S. Ports
That's just a tad below the 7,084 passengers that can fit aboard Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas — the world's largest cruise ship. As was the case with Celebrity Beyond, Ascent will have 179 more cabins than its sister vessels, each of which has 1,467 cabins. As a result, Celebrity Ascent, like Celebrity Beyond, will hold 3,260 passengers at double occupancy. That's up from a 2,910-passenger capacity at double occupancy for Celebrity Apex and a 2,918-passenger capacity at double occupancy for Celebrity Edge.
The ship won’t be among the largest in the world when it debuts, but it will be Carnival’s largest to date, larger even than Mardi Gras, placing Carnival Jubilee just shy of the world’s current top 10 largest cruise ships. There’s a lot to look forward to in 2023, with new cruise ships coming from all your favorite cruise lines, from Virgin to Viking, Celebrity to Carnival. MSC Cruises continues its rapid expansion in 2023 with not one but two cruise ships -- one of them marking the debut of a luxury expedition cruise line (more on that later). Silver Nova is the next step for luxury cruise line Silversea and the first of the new Evolution-class ships.
Each of the 375 luxurious balcony suites has ocean views and benefits from butler service. Seven Seas Grandeur has a far more contemporary luxe design than her sister ships, whilst retaining some of the traditional features enjoyed by guests. Six-star cruise line Regent Seven Seas will debut their newest ship, Seven Seas Grandeur in November 2023. The 750 guest ultra-luxury, all-inclusive cruise ship will be the sixth ship in the Regent Seven Seas fleet, and the third of its new builds. Other planned features include more than 27,000 square feet of outdoor deck space, four pools and nine restaurants.
The ship has plenty to see and do as well, including 5 pools and an intricate waterpark, while the indoor promenade has an incredible LED dome. Resilient Lady is the third ship in the Virgin Voyages fleet, which has started strongly as a contemporary adults-only cruise brand. Wellness is also a key theme, with cutting-edge equipment and bespoke experiences in every destination, as well as plenty of spa treatment options for those who just want to unwind. The launch of Royal Caribbean’s new ship, Icon of the Seas, which became the biggest cruise ship in the world, was delayed from December 2023 to January 2024.

New cruise ships get us pretty jazzed here at Sailawaze so we’re thrilled that there are so many more ocean vessels to welcome onto the waterways of the world in 2023. With 12 eateries, including a buffet which is open for 20 hours, and several fine dining speciality restaurants, guests definitely won’t go hungry. Entertainment is a key feature on MSC Euribia, with lavish production shows, a large water park, and a two-deck high amusement park. Of course there is also the ubiquitous LED dome ceiling ("digital sky") displaying visual shows, and the not-to-be missed MSC Starship Club with the iconic Rob the robotic bartender. Euribia has been announced as the industry's most environmentally advanced ship to date being MSC's second newbuild designed to be LNG-powered (liquified natural gas), the first being MSC World Europa launched in 2022.
The Expedition Ships We're Excited About in 2023
Expect some of your favourite Regent dining venues, jaw-dropping decor throughout suites and the public areas, and of course, some of the finest service on the ocean, with every guest treated like the ultimate VIP. Explora I is the first ship for this luxury line and she offers a contemporary ‘superyacht’ experience that blends “Swiss precision” with modern craftsmanship. The latest addition to the growing fleet of Viking Ocean Cruises ships, Viking Saturn has been built for Mediterranean and Scandinavian itineraries. Expect the same high-class accommodation and features as Viking’s other ocean ships, with every cabin having a balcony, and tasteful decor throughout. These include MSC Euribia, Norwegian Viva and Explora I, the first ship for the new cruise line Explora Journeys.
The third boutique expedition vessel is the largest and has been designed with an ice-strengthened hull to explore some of the world’s most remote regions. Multiple observation points will provide passengers with the best views of passing scenery and wildlife. The first of the new cruise ships launching in 2023 is from Swan Hellenic which was revived in 2020, marking the return of the 70-year-old British discovery cruise brand under new ownership and with new ships. Entertainment is contemporary and unlike any you will have seen onboard other ships - forget traditional theatre shows, cruise ship crooners and port talks.
She also offers the widest range of accommodation in the entire Celebrity Cruises fleet, with Iconic Suites, Infinite Verandas and Edge Villas some of the spectacular highlights. Sister ship to the Celebrity Beyond, she features newly-expanded open spaces on decks to allow guests to relax and feel even closer to the surrounding world. Expect outstanding luxury during your adventure, with 10 restaurants to choose from offering stunning and diverse cuisine. And every room is a suite with a veranda, offering some of the most spacious, luxurious accommodation at sea. The latest ship in Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Prima Class, the Norwegian Viva is designed with larger open spaces to help you relax and get close to the ocean.
It has a sprawling 431-square-foot balcony area that is the most spacious on board. From Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Seven Seas Grandeur will be a sister ship to Seven Seas Splendor and Seven Seas Explorer. When it debuts, Seven Seas Grandeur will offer one of the highest space and crew to passenger ratios out of not just all of Regent’s cruise ships, but industry-wide as well. Resilient Lady appears in May 2023, when it’s expected that the cruise ship will take its inaugural sailing from Greece.

There are a selection of dining venues, including some that offer speciality dishes based on the region that the ship is sailing. But it’s Viking’s commitment to enrichment that will take the fore – expect fascinating talks to be held by the cruise line’s resident historians, as well as cookery classes, wine tastings and more. Named after the ancient goddess who harnessed the weather and constellations to be master of the seas, MSC Euribia is MSC Cruises’ addition to 2023’s new cruise ships. Debuting in June, it will be setting its sights on Norway, Germany, Italy, and other cities on the Mediterranean sea. The design of this magnificent ship has been focused on sustainable technologies that protect and preserve the marine ecosystems that it visits.
